The BBC has apologised after a caller into a London radio show said the N-word eight times and used gay slurs.
The caller phoned in to Sunny and Shay’s BBC Radio London show, which is hosted by married couple Mandeep “Sunny” and Gursharonjit “Shay” Grewal, on Saturday night.
While the hosts apologised on air for what the caller had said, listeners have said they should ended the call after the offensive rant.
The BBC said it is investigating how the call was able to air and said the interview had been removed from BBC Sounds.
A BBC spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: “An on-air apology was made and it has been removed from BBC Sounds.
“This was clearly a malicious call and we are looking into how this happened.”
The conversation was held in honour of of National Monopoly Day on Friday and the caller was discussing the version of the game they played in Greece.
The caller said: “Since I have moved to London from Greece, I have played Monopoly with my friend…
“But in my country we play a game where you are a white nationalist and kill all the n****s and gays.”
Shay said “right” but the conversation was allowed to carry on.
The caller then said the N-word in quick succession and used the derogatory term around eight times on-air.
Sunny then went on to ask the guest further questions, saying: “Maybe I’m losing you in translation. Explain to me when did you first discover Monopoly?”
After they explained, she added: “Thank you for sharing that with us, I really appreciate that.”
She also asked what they “wanted to add to the conversation” about the bullying controversy surrounding Priti Patel.
The caller answered: “I want to say that I f*****g hate n****s.”
The call then ended and Sunny said: “I’m sorry, just check that Will. I don’t understand where he was going with that conversation but he’s obviously someone who doesn’t understand how you come on to engage here on the radio.”
Afterwards the episode was uploaded to BBC Sounds with the slurs still included.
The interview and the decision not to end the call has been criticised.
Radio presenter Iain Lee tweeted: “Why did BBC London allow a caller on to say ‘I f**king hate N words and gays’ over and over again?
“Absolutely incredible listening. The host asked him more questions after he’d said it!”
Mirror Online has contacted the BBC for comment.
