Britney Spears is “afraid” of her father and will not perform again while he is the conservator of her estate, a court heard.
The pop star has asked a judge in Los Angeles to remove her father, Jamie, from his role overseeing her affairs.
Jamie Spears has controlled Britney’s career and personal life by a conservatorship since 2008 after the singer endured a public breakdown.
Britney, 38, has now vowed to not work again while her father is in control of her life.
A courtroom in Los Angeles has now heard how the father and daughter have no working relationship and no longer speak.
Samuel D Ingham, who is representing the Womanizer songstress, told the courtroom that Britney has told him on several occasions that “she is afraid of her father”.
He added that the case is currently at a crossroads with Britney and Jamie having no “viable working relationship”.
Gladstone Jones, representing Spears’ mother, Lynne, said she agreed that Jamie should be suspended from his role as conservator.
Vivian Thoreen, representing Jamie, instantly dismissed claims and added that he hadn’t spoken to his daughter who had been advised by legal teams to cut contact.
Reps for Jamie said that when he took control of Britney’s affairs, her personal estate was subject to lawsuits reportedly in their millions but he has now turned her fortune around, to an estimated £45 million.
In court filings, Spears said she wants the Bessemer Trust appointed as “sole conservator”.
They went on to say that Jamie has always acted in the best interests of the pop princess.
Jamie’s legal team added that it would be an “extraordinary” move to suspend him from his role.
Sitting at Stanley Mosk Courthouse for a largely virtual hearing, Judge Brenda Penny made Bessemer Trust co-conservator of the case but did not suspend Jamie from his role, saying she would hear that part of the case at a later date.
The hearing took place against the backdrop of the #FreeBritney movement, created by fans who believe Britney is being controlled by those around her.
It’s claimed that Britney has sent encrypted messages through her social media posts.
Mirror Online has approached representatives for Ms. Spears for comment.
