Some fans have accused Shane of bullying AJ after Thursday’s night show in which he threw his dish at AJ in a long-running feud over cleaning the dishes.
Now his girlfriend Abbie Quinnen has said how Shane isn’t “as kind to AJ as he is to the other campmates”, adding: “AJ is a true gentleman, he literally doesn’t dislike anyone.”
Abbie said she was left particularly upset by Shane’s son Shane Junior who had cruelly berated AJ on social media after the dancer questioned his dad’s washing-up skills.
Shane Jnr, whose mum is Coleen Nolan, branded AJ a “a little b***h”.
Abbie says: “I appreciate he is sticking up for his dad, but I don’t think it’s nice he called AJ a little b**** and he overstepped the line.”
She added: “What we all need to remember is that this is a TV show and it’s for entertainment. I am sure AJ and Shane will be getting along just fine a lot of the time”.
Shane Jnr yesterday slammed some fans for claiming his dad was a bully – and appeared to hit out at TV bosses.
He said: “ I know it’s a TV show but you’re playing with people’s lives man. If there really is tension then I’m all for it. Or are you editing to cause tension ? That’s what I can’t agree with. I know it’s telly but there are vile comments being thrown around and it’s not fair.”
Shane later added: “Nothing gets to me until the word ‘Bully’ gets branded about. We throw that out so easily nowadays, it’s everything that’s wrong with society at the min.”
Abbie said that although she didn’t feel Shane was bullying AJ, the scenes between AJ and Shane had left her perplexed.
“Hopefully these were just a couple of one-offs,” she says. “AJ is really lovely and gets on with everyone. He is very level headed. AJ has the ability to get on with everyone and anyone, people always say his nice he is and how friendly to anyone he meets.”
Of AJ’s high-standards when it comes to cleaning, this is nothing new.
“He is just very OCD and likes everything in perfect condition, just like he is at home, where him and his brother Curtis are total opposites. Curtis is really relaxed and carefree with cleaning, but AJ likes things done a certain way.”
Abbie also told how she was getting trolled more than ever since AJ has been on the show.
The 23-year-old has even been getting death threats by obsessed fans leaving her terrified.
“Because he is in the public eye and with everyone watching I’m a Celebrity, there is definitely more abuse,” she says. “Everyone loves AJ and wants him to be THEIR boyfriend.
“I find it so hard reading the comments I get on social media. AJ has been very supportive and tells me not to read it. I try to keep really positive as I know how much happiness he brings to lots of people which makes me really happy”.
On receiving death threats, she added: “ Its crazy that some people have this streak in them and they want to ruin people’s lives.”
Abbie also discussed how Covid nearly scuppered AJ’s I’m a Celebrity dream- saying the pair of them were left “petrified” he wouldn’t be able to take part after testing positive.
Abbie, who also had Covid despite not having any symptoms, admits: “AJ was getting really, really stressed about it. I was worrying for him as we had known about his for so long, and he was just so excited to go in.
“The thought of him not being able to do it was breaking his heart. But when the negative tests came through we were over the moon and cracked open a bottle of champagne.”
I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
