Strictly Come Dancing star Jacqui Smith has admitted that the celebrities are ‘suffering’ because of the gruelling rehearsals.
Just one day before the BBC dance competition makes a triumphant return to television, the politician admitted that it hadn’t all been a walk in the park.
Chatting to Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins on Good Morning Britain, the 57-year-old former Home Secretary admitted that she was still having lots of fun as they gear up for the first live dance.
The budding dancer explained that a bit of sparkle was exactly what the nation needed in the current climate.
However, even the younger celebrities had been finding the rehearsals tough.
“I’m having the time of my life, it is absolutely brilliant,” Jaqcui said to Charlotte and Kate.
“We’re in proper training now for the first live dance, which is going to be happening a week on Saturday.
“So we’ve actually recorded the show that is going out tomorrow and all that I can say is my dancing is already better than it will be on the show tomorrow.
“The main use of alcohol as far as I’m concerned at the moment is rubbing it into my aching feet because my poor old body is taking a battering.
She added: “But I have to say, even the youngsters on the show are also physically suffering, so it’s not just us oldies who are under the cosh.
“But we are all absolutely loving it and I think, for all of the reasons we talked about, a bit of sparkle and a bit of dance is what the country needs now”.
Fans watching the interview also noted that the star was looking slightly ‘knackered’ from the testing rehearsals.
Aside from being put through her paces, Jacqui was also keeping tight lipped about who her professional dance partner was – adding that all will be revealed in tomorrow’s prerecorded show.
Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One on October 17 at 7.50pm .
