Kelly Clarkson has opened up about her divorce from Brandon Blackstock, and how they’re helping their two kids through it.
Kelly, 38 and Brandon, 43, share six-year-old River Rose and four-year-old Remington Alexander.
Now Kelly has told that she and Brandon are determined to protect their kids’ mental health as they go about their split by putting them in therapy.
Brandon also has two children, Seth, 13, and daughter Savannah, 18, from his previous marriage.
He and Kelly tied the knot in 2013, Kelly filing for divorce in June this year after seven years of marriage.
She shared with ExtraTV : “We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists because we want to do it right.
“I definitely want to do it right.”
The singer added: “Everyone’s sad — and it’s OK to be sad.”
Kelly reiterated that her and Brandon’s top priority is “protecting these little kids that you adore.”
An insider recently told People that Kelly’s not letting the split get her down, and that she’s keeping herself busy.
“Kelly is a doer, a pusher, someone who forges ahead even when it’s difficult for her,” they said.
“Being busy is a blessing and she knows that.”
They went on that she’s put pen to paper for new music and has been working hard on the Emmy-winning Kelly Clarkson Show.
“Music builds her up even if her songs are confronting her troubles,” she continued.
“Kelly will come out of this a stronger person.”
Kelly cited irreconcilable differences when filing for divorce, the news breaking weeks after they put their family home on the market.
She and Brandon first met in 2012, but she was re-introduced to him after his divorce.
The star previously told Mail Online: “Brandon is my manager’s son. I’ve known him for six years, but he was married for most of that time.
“Then, suddenly, there he was at the Super Bowl and he was single…”
