McFly’s Dougie Poynter forgot two years of his life through Valium addiction

Dougie Poynter has spoken out on how his addiction to Valium led to him “losing two years” of his life.

The bass player, 32, recently told that he took “lethal doses” of Valium after McFly decided to take an indefinite hiatus in 2016.

He revealed that he struggled after he and his bandmates – Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd and Danny Jones – went their separate ways and he says he turned to the drug to help his worries about the band breaking up “disappear.”

When asked if he struggles to remember the periods in which he was using the drug, he told The Sun: “Honestly, yeah. I mean, you get flashbacks, but it’s a huge blur. It’s strange.

“That’s something which is really hard to come to terms with, literally losing two years. Two years just went as like a weird dream. Coming out the other end was like, ‘What? Where’s my band?’”

During the chat, it was also revealed that his bandmate Harry encouraged him to go to rehab after learning that the chilling drug could cause him to die.

Dougie added of Harry stepping in: “It was certainly an intervention. I don’t remember kicking up a fuss but . . . I don’t remember much really.”

McFly is set to discuss Dougie’s Valium battle in an upcoming episode of their ITV show McFly: All About Us.
