I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! star Shane Richie delighted his campmates with tales of his showbiz escapades in Tuesday night’s installment of the hit reality show.
The former EastEnders actor revealed he once found himself go-karting with Hollywood royalty Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman back in the late 90s when the pair were the hottest couple in Tinseltown.
While the bizarre tale enthralled Shane’s new pals, viewers at home guessed the Alfie Moon star might be over-exaggerating the huge name drop.
Quick to stand up for his dad, Shane’s son Shane Nolan Jnr took to Instagram after digging out the exact receipt from the race – which the actor has kept to this day.
“For anyone thinking my dad was talking b******s…” said Shane as he posted the proof.
But Shane Snr might not be too happy at the results reveal, as his son also pointed out: “He got beat off Nicole Kidman.”
The score card showed that Mission Impossible star Tom finished in first position with then girlfriend Nicole coming in runner-up at just seconds behind him.
While Shane had to settle for fifth place as he lagged behind the top finishers.
Recounting the story behind the race to his campmates, Shane said: “When I was in the West End doing Boogie Nights in 1999, Nicole Kidman and Tom were filming Eyes Wide Shut. And there was a big indoor go-karting track near the BBC.
I got a phone call from Charlie who used to run it and he said come along on your own and I was going through a real public divorce at the time, I was being followed by the press, so I turned up and went in and he said sit down, I’ve got to tell you Tom and Nicole are here… he said he wants to know if he can race against you because you love go-karting.”
Shane said that he raced the pair till ‘5 in the morning’ adding: “[Tom] was a speed freak. He didn’t care about danger.”
Vernon Kay then managed to trump that story by saying he saw Brad Pitt in Marks and Spencers and Prince William and Kate near his ‘favourite’ DIY shop on the very same day.
