Podcaster and author Giovanna scooped the win of this year’s series last week, with Jordan North coming in second place and Vernon closely in third.
And although most campmates said that Giovanna’s win was well-deserved, it seems as though Piers was not convinced.
Speaking to Vernon live on air via video chat, outspoken Piers said: “You got beaten by somebody in a programme called I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!… You got beaten by somebody I’ve never heard of.
“Who is Giovanna Fletcher?”
Laughing at Piers’ candid remark, Vernon was quick to defend the Queen of the Castle, saying: “She’s got huge followers with her podcast and the books that herself and her husband Tom write.
“But do you know what Piers, she’s the most loveliest person that I think I’ve met in a long long time. She was really really endearing, really sweet, really compassionate.
“She had the greatest skill of just listening to people talk. I know that well-being is at the top of everyone’s list recently, and she was really good at just listening to people’s issues, their problems, what they like, what they didn’t like.”
He added: “And I think as a fellow campmate of Giovanna’s, I thought she was well and truly deserved being crowned Queen.”
Piers then said: “I’ve got to be honest with you, my only problem with this year’s series was – probably because of the pandemic – everyone was so sycophantic to each other.
“You were all sitting there, holding hands, sobbing, telling each other how special they are. I wanted someone to go nuts.”
Vernon then responded: “Do you know what Piers? We’ve had dinner together, and basically, it was like you at the dinner table – lovely, compassionate, hugging… everyone was friendly.”
Susanna Reid then interrupts, joking: “I’ve never seen this Piers Morgan.”
Piers then jumped in, adding: “You are ruining my reputation Vernon Kay, and I won’t have it on my own programme.”
Bursting into laughter, Vernon added: “I’m going to put this on the record. Piers Morgan is probably one of the best dinner guests you could ever invite round to your house.”
“He’s a horror,” Susanna added.
